Round 22 Development Match Report - Sharks v Tigers
Sharks end Tigers’ Winning Streak
By Dan Scamozzi
Claremont (Reserves) saw its 11-game winning run come to an end after suffering its first loss since Round 8 with a 59-point drubbing by East Fremantle at ATOM Stadium last Saturday.
The Tigers got off to a slow start and never recovered in their 5.2 (32) to 13.13 (91) defeat – the team’s lowest score for the season - and have dropped to second position on the ladder.
Gerrick Weedon battled manfully for 20 disposals, seven marks, seven tackles and two goals, while Jack Richardson (two) was the Tigers’ only other multiple goal kicker.
Matthew Taylor and Declan Hardisty made their debuts, however, the Tigers recorded 176 less disposals, just 29 inside 50s and could only manage seven scoring shots.
East Fremantle was led by Jack Perham (six goals) and Tom Bennett, (28 disposals, seven inside 50s, two goals), as the Sharks set up their victory with a five-goal-to-one opening term to record consecutive wins.
Claremont will look to rebound when it hosts Peel Thunder at the Showgrounds in Round 23, and could still finish in top spot if it wins and East Perth either draw with or lose to East Fremantle.
Meanwhile, Claremont saw its four-game winning run come to an end in the Colts, after suffering a 15-point loss to East Fremantle, 5.4 (34) to 7.7 (49).
