Round 23 Preview Claremont vs. Peel Thunder

Claremont will be looking to finish the season with a bang and record consecutive wins when it hosts Peel Thunder at the Showgrounds in “The Fathering Project Round”.

The West Australian Football League’s inaugural Fathering Project Round will be held this Saturday, August 27 with free family entry at all games when a Free Entry Flyer is presented.

The Round is being held in collaboration with the Fathering Project, which is a non-for-profit charity supporting fathers and father figures who want to make a real difference in, and have a positive impact on the lives of children.

The Fathering Project’s mission is to inspire and encourage fathers and father figures “to be the best dads they can be” by being pro-active in the lives of their children.

Activities planned at WAFL games for the Fathering Project Round include Little League with dads playing against the kids, dads and kids running races, kick to kick, goal kicking competitions and WAFL merchandise giveaways.

After smashing East Fremantle by 99 points – its biggest win since 2012 - the Tigers will be looking to defeat the Thunder for the second time in four weeks, having prevailed by 45 points when the teams met back in Round 19.

A win would give Claremont eight for the season, in what will be coach Michael Broadbridge’s 61^st and final match in charge of the Tigers.

While results haven’t gone Claremont’s way in 2016, the future is bright at Tigerland, and Michael, along with all of the coaching staff, have done a great job during a challenging three years.

The club expresses its thanks to Michael and wishes him and his family all the best for the future.

Beau Maister and Tom Shanahan will look to return after missing the win over East Fremantle due to concussion, while Jack Beeck (ill) was a late withdrawal.

Gerrick Weedon will push his case for selection after a strong performance in the Reserves, and will line up for his 50^th game if selected.

Meanwhile, Ian Richardson needs three majors to reach 350 League goals in what will be his 166^th League game.

The club encourages all Claremont members and fans to attend the game and cheer on the mighty Tigers in what will be the team’s final game for the season.

Bounce down is 2.15pm, following Reserves at 11.30am and Colts at 9am.
