Team Building in Lancelin Teaches Tigers

Wednesday, February 22, 2017 - 10:39 AM by Daniel Weatherhead

After getting through most of the pre-season with endless training sessions and relentless weights training the squad was rewarded with a camp in Lancelin.

They started on Friday at the home of Claremont leaving from the showgrounds in buses supplied by Hertz and two hours later they were in Lancelin enjoying a well-deserved dinner after the drive.

The first night was pretty relaxed with plenty of time to spend with each other including a group meeting that went through some structures that will be employed into gameplay in the upcoming 2017 season.

The boys were up early on Saturday morning with a light stroll down to the local beach and did some long recovery stretching.

After some breakfast the Tiges made their way down to the local football oval where they had a two hour footy session followed by lunch and then a meeting over two hours going over everything they have done over preseason and what they have learnt about each other as team-mates.

Senior player Tom Lee said he found it hard to single out the best

moment from the camp.

“We did a footy session down at the oval and we did a little bit of match simulation and we simulated scores being level for the last three minutes,” Tom said.

“It was basically play to win and I think that really showed as a group how far we have come.

That was a highlight to me, that three minutes of footy.”

It was crucial for the squad to know their fellow team mates like the back of their hand and that was what the camp was designed for.

Tom said a lot of camps are set up to break you mentally with pure physical challenges, however this camp was different.

“This one was more of a team building, more of a get to know your team mates, because that’s where success bleeds from – how close knit your team is,” Tom said.

Tom said he was impressed by how much maturity the group showed.

“I actually didn’t know how young a lot of our players were because of how mature they are so I think that was one thing to take out of it, but definitely feel like we have come a long way from the weekend,” Tom said.

The Tigers now look forward to an intra-club hit out on Saturday the 25th of February at East Fremantle Oval starting at 10am.
