Colts Report: Tigers Pounce on Swans

Monday, September 4, 2017 - 2:10 PM

Claremont’s Colts defeated Swan Districts by 18 points at Steel Blue Oval in the qualifying final on Sunday to set up a clash with minor premiers East Fremantle in the second semifinal.

The 9.11 (65) to 6.11 (47) triumph was the Tigers’ third consecutive win, and leaves the team just one win away from a fifth consecutive grand final appearance.

After winning the opening two terms and drawing the third, the Tigers had to withstand an early onslaught from Swans in the last, before the team steadied and recorded one of their best wins of the season on the back of 10 more tackles and 10 more inside 50s.

Fraser House, who debuted for the Reserves eight days earlier, finished as Claremont’s best player, with Shaquille Morton winning the players’ player award for his unwavering attack on the ball.

Jacob Orr had a game-high eight inside 50s and worked tirelessly across the half-forward line, with Rylie Morgan recording a game-high 31 disposals and kicking two goals.

Josh Devitt-Boyd (five marks, two goals) provided a focal point inside 50 and hauled in several contested marks, with Cooper Nitschke prominent from start to finish.
