Claremont’s Reserves’ chances of winning back-to-back premierships is over, after the Tigers suffered a disappointing 21-point loss to Subiaco in the preliminary final at Leederville Oval on Sunday.

A poor and goalless first quarter proved too difficult to overcome in the 6.14 (50) to 10.11 (71) defeat in warm and splendid conditions, despite the Tigers working their way back into the game.

However, despite six more inside 50s, kicking 6.13 to 6.9 after quarter-time and recording just one less scoring shot overall, the Tigers never threatened the Lions, who now face South Fremantle in the grand final.

Acting captain Tom Shanahan continued his outstanding finish to the season with game-high hauls of 41 disposals and 13 marks, with Kaiden Gilbert (nine marks) winning the players’ player award.

Declan Hardisty, Ben Rushforth and Chris (CJ) Oakley battled manfully, with Eddie Simpson (eight marks) kicking a team-high three goals.
