Lions Too Good For Tigers
A rampant and clinical Subiaco proved too good for Claremont at Leederville Oval on Thursday night, with the Lions smashing the Tigers by 86 points.
Despite a promising but inaccurate first half in Beau Maister’s 150th game, the Tigers were no match for the unbeaten Lions after half-time as the hosts slammed on 11 goals to three to prevail 20.15 (135) to 7.7 (49).
Turnovers and inaccuracy hurt the Tigers in the first half, despite the visitors recording 19 inside 50s to 11 in the second term.
Oliver Eastland (20 disposals, 18 hit-outs) was given the task of leading the ruck against Subiaco’s Zac Clarke and performed admirably, while Morgan Davies (19 disposals) won the players’ player award for his disciplined role in blanketing Josh Deluca (11 disposals).
Jye Bolton (27 disposals) took a game-high eight marks and impressed with his pressure and work rate, while Bailey Rogers was solid in defence and Haydn Busher nullified the impact of Subiaco’s Lachlan Delahunty.
Matthew Palfrey kicked a team-high three goals, however, the Tigers were beaten in clearances (47-28), inside 50s (59-44) and scoring shots (35-14).
Subiaco were led by their captain Kyal Horsley (31 disposals, one goal) and defenders Angus Litherland (19 disposals, seven marks) and Jordan Lockyer, while Rhys Waters kicked a game-high five goals.
The Tigers host South Fremantle at Centennial Stadium Oval in Albany in round five.
