Slow Start Costs Tigers
A disappointing and goalless first quarter saw Claremont’s Reserves suffer their first defeat of the season against Subiaco at Leederville Oval on Friday night.
Despite working their way into the game after quarter-time, the Tigers could only manage 29 inside 50s to the hosts’ 45 as the Lions prevailed by 30 points, 10.11 (71) to 6.5 (41).
Jack Richardson, in his first game of the season, kicked two goals, while Declan Hardisty was outstanding in defence.
Declan McNamara, Isaac Wallace, who laid an equal game-high nine tackles along with Lachlan Martinis, Addison Dew and Brett Wilson also impressed, while Charlie Le Fanu was prominent in defence before moving forward to kick two goals and tied with Wallace for the players’ player award.
Daniel Perkins kicked a game-high three goals for the Lions, while Daniel Leach recorded a game-high 22 disposals as the hosts smashed the Tigers in clearances and inside 50s in the opening term to set up a 28-point lead at quarter-time.
The Tigers host South Fremantle at Claremont Oval in round five.
Meanwhile, Claremont’s Colts suffered consecutive defeats after a four-point loss to the Lions, 13.7 (85) to 12.9 (81).
