Jake Murphy: Taking The Year Off Footy
Thursday, April 26, 2018 - 10:32 AM
Hi CFC Board, Members, Supporters and wider Claremont Family,
I have recently informed the playing group of my decision to take the year off Football, to travel and explore other interests in my life being namely business and potential study. It obviously hasn't been an easy decision, given football is all I have known for the past 20 years. However, after understanding that I was facing a 6 month recovery for my recent achilles surgery, I felt that if I spend another full season working my way through rehab I could genuinely see myself burning out, retiring and losing passion for the game at the young age of 28. Taking a break now, I feel will extend my career for another 2 - 3 years as it will allow me to take the time to get things right physically whilst exploring all the other interests in my life that have been placed on the back burner with football in charge.
I still have a lot I want to achieve in my career, with nothing more important than ensuring the club is having consistent on field success by the time I finish. Something I believe we are on the verge of starting this year.
Good luck to all grades and players this season and thanks for all the support and understanding during what has been a tough period for me personally.
See you in 2019.
Murph
