Round 12 | Rogers vs Subiaco Lions
Although it took some time for momentum to gather, the Claremont Rogers eventually showcased their exceptional skill set by dismantling Subiaco with precise and clean play. This display exemplified the very best of Claremont Rogers football.
Despite facing a struggling Subiaco team that has had limited success this season, the match remained fairly competitive, making for a challenging afternoon with pressure acts witnessed across the entire ground.
As the season approaches the pointy end, this performance showcased the strengths and assets that Claremont have at their disposal. With an arsenal of positional weapons, supported by a well-structured team system, players are able to thrive in their respective roles.
Players who have found strong form are now building momentum at the right time of the season, instilling a positive outlook for the Claremont Rogers side as they rediscover their mojo and regain momentum in season 2023.
Subiaco managed only one goal early in the second quarter and failed to score any goals in the second half, despite having a few shots at goal. Claremont controlled the majority of the ball in the third quarter, limiting Subiaco's opportunities in their forward 50, resulting in Claremont's highest-scoring quarter, converting three goals and two behinds.
The final score line accurately reflected Claremont's comprehensive win, with a reading of 8.5 (53) to Subiaco's 1.3 (9).
India Bonadeo once again showcased her exceptional footy IQ, demonstrating her ability to assess each play and find pockets of space even where there were none. Playing predominantly off the halfback line, Bonadeo's versatility was evident as she also participated in centre bounces during the later stages of the game.
From the first bounce, Bec Anderson made her presence felt, actively engaging in the play and displaying remarkable skills both in the air and on the ground. Despite her role as a primary ruckman, Anderson showcased her skill in ground ball gets, smoothly scooping up loose bouncing balls while maintaining full speed and agility. Furthermore, Anderson capped off her impressive performance by adding a goal to her tally in the final quarter.
Although Savannah Muir didn't have her best game in terms of goal scoring for the 2023 season, she was busy making valuable contributions across the field.
When Anderson was off the field, Muir stepped in to provide support in the ruck and proved successful on most occasions, utilising her well-timed punches to advantage players on the outskirts of the contest.
Playing higher up in the forward line while rucking, Muir displayed skills in turning her opponents inside-out as she entered the forward 50. If Muir can consistently incorporate these abilities into her game, she will become another versatile weapon at the disposal of the Claremont coaching staff.
With Muir providing valuable assistance in the ruck, it created opportunities for Jessica Rava and Jemimah Port to make a significant impact on the scoreboard. Both players showcased their scoring ability by each contributing two goals throughout the match, delivering decisive blows to the opposition early on in the game.
May Nicholson displayed impressive form, emerging as one of the primary ball winners in today's match. Initially starting on the wing, Nicholson's versatility saw her move around the ground to provide support wherever needed.
Her presence injected pace and energy into the game, and as the weeks progress, her confidence in contested situations continues to grow. Notably, Nicholson's leading and marking skills have seen improvement, adding another dimension to her game.
Setting the tone early, Nicholson showcased her determination with some outstanding pressure acts, while her athleticism allowed her to pivot out of contests with ease. With each passing week, Nicholson is becoming a player to keep a close eye on, particularly as teams intensify their fight for a spot in the top four.
After a demanding stretch, the Claremont Rogers will now enjoy a well-deserved break during their bye round, providing them with the opportunity to rest and recuperate ahead of the upcoming finals campaign.
As the home and away season draws to a close, Claremont's next match will take place at Revo Fitness Stadium, on June 11th at 12pm. The Tigers are set to face off against Swan Districts, who currently hold the sixth seed in the competition.
Historically, the Claremont Rogers have dominated their matchups against Swan Districts, having secured victory in their last five encounters. Eager to extend their winning streak and achieve their sixth consecutive triumph over Swan Districts, the Tigers will be aiming to notch up their 10th win of the season.
While the fight is far from over, the Tigers can find satisfaction in surpassing their win tally from the previous home and away season, now boasting a total of nine wins for the year.
